PlayDates with Pandora
CALL FOR SCRIPTS
PlayDates with Pandora is an initiative begun in the 2016-2017 season reading plays on LGBTQ+ themes and celebrating plays written by local and regional playwrights. The mission of the Pandora Productions Playdates is to give local and regional playwrights a voice and introduce their work to our audiences.
Thanks to a generous matching grant from the Jennifer Lawrence Foundation through the Fund for the Arts ArtsMatch program, the PlayDates with Pandora project is expanding for 2018-2019. Pandora Productions calls for new plays that focus on current issues of importance to and about the LGBTQ+ community. We are looking for plays on specific themes this season but are open to including other themes relevant to and taking on issues related to the LGBTQ+ community that is forward looking:
– Aging in the LGBTQ community,
– Transgender experience in today’s political climate,
– Parenting in the LGBTQ community,
– Coming Out for Youth in the new LGBTQ age,
– Hate Crimes against LBGTQ people in a new political climate,
– Figures of historical significance to the LBGTQ community.
Plays selected to be a part of the 2018-2019 Season of PlayDates will receive rehearsals with professional quality actors and directors accompanied by the playwright, then presented in a staged reading for our audiences followed by talkbacks and discussions of the scripts and themes with relevant invited experts.
We are looking for original works which have not been published and have not had a full premiere production. Full length plays are preferred but we will consider short plays. Short plays would only be considered if there were enough selected to provide a full evening of readings and discussions. Likewise, one-act plays will be read and considered only if there are enough submitted to create an evening of readings and discussions. Musicals will also be considered but we request that music be completely written out and ready for rehearsal if selected.
Submitted plays should address the thematic guidelines as listed above and be submitted by the deadline. Early submission is encouraged. We are only accepting electronic submissions in PDF format. Please do not submit paper manuscripts. Musicals must include a score and demo mp3 files with the script.
Please follow these submission guidelines:
Send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org with the following in the body of the email: Play Title, Name of Playwright(s), Contact information (email and phone), Synopsis of the play and cast requirements.
Attach a PDF copy of your script with just the title on the cover, musical score, mp3’s to the email. As our readers are reading blind we request that you please not include playwright or contact information on the submitted script. Email all submissions by August 15, 2018 to:
This project is a way of exposing Pandora audiences and the Louisville region to playwrights who are living and working in the region, submissions are limited to those living within a 50 mile radius of the Louisville Metro area. One submission per playwright so we can highlight more worthy playwrights.
All submissions will be screened by a blind panel of readers for appropriateness of topic, theatricality, and overall quality. Each play will receive scores from a minimum of 2 readers. Highly-scored plays from the first round will be read by additional readers and scored until a short list of 4 plays is determined.
